Ten percent of Tuross Head for Sale !!!!
In 2006 Tuross had 179 vacant blocks and 1650 houses of which 1010 were permanently occupied
This month sees 184 properties listed for sale—10% of the town
Locals have remarked about, what appears to be, a growing number of For Sale signs around Eurobodalla and Tuross. When companies find they are losing large numbers of customers or staff, they conduct exit interviews or use other means to acquaint themselves with the reasons.
We would not wish to invade the privacy of others, but as a caring community perhaps we should be trying to determine whether there is anything the community, THPA, local businesses or Council could be planning to do to keep our residents and home owners preferring to be here.
Whist it is recognised that some community members will have many reasons for moving away from the town, the Tuross Head Progress Association invites those who are selling their houses or land to let them know of any issues and reasons that the community and our town planners should consider?
No doubt the Eurobodalla Shire Council’s Town Planners have their own concerns and are working hard behind the scenes in discussions of the increasing need for public transport, medical access and employment opportunities.
The Eurobodalla Council Vision 2030 report highlighted these concerns and expectations.
If able can you tell others your own reasons for selling up and leaving Tuross

Perhaps the rates are too high - more than double those in a lot of suburbs in Sydney.
My neighbours on both sides have left in the last year. The old couple moved back to Melbourne because they couldn't drive any more and the cost of food here was too high and they needed more medical services and had to be driven to Nowra and Bega for treatment by friends. Now they live with a daughter. The other couple were young and had moved here from Wagga. Their kids were nice, polite at primary school but became ratbags at Moruya High so the family sold up (even though he had a good job) and went back to Wagga for the sake of the kids and their education and to be nearer grandparents and his family.
the young ones liked Tuross and said they would miss it but there was nothing to keep them here. There was nothing in the town for kids and they had to drive everywhere if they wanted their kids to play sport. The kids felt like outsiders because they didn't surf with all the local kids andsaid that they would never be locals. They said that there was nothing here except the club and it wasn't family friendly with all its grog and cigarettes. Don't know what anyone could do about them leaving. We miss them and now have renters both sides who are strugging with single incomes. The houses are for sale and will be for sale for yonks because there are nine others in our street and then every third house in Coila looks like it is for sale as well. One day I will leave as well and go to the city for medical reasons and because it has subsidised public transport. The council has done nothing for me. I have asked for channelling out the front for years. All they have ever done is take my garbage, take away my crap and provide me water. For nearly thirty five years all I have seen is the bush go backwards and now it is the thickest and most dangerous i have ever seen. Burn offs aren't allowed any more. God help us if we ever get a bushfire B.T
trees keep on being cut down and nature reserves are to b turned into subdivisions. the natural surroundings are what keep places beautiful...give wildlife somewhere to roam and provide shade and cool surroundings. keep tuross a country town...not suburbia. public transport needs some attention too.
Obvious reasons are - deceased estate, work related, medical related. There's also no bus service to and from Tuross to the nearest shopping centres, no attractions to keep kids out of trouble. So many reasons and yet it's neither the council's or tuross progress associations's business.
A letter came in from a Tuross Giant reader - it said in part:
We are now a one income family and our Tuross holiday house is of course our second home. For the second year running we have been hit hard for land tax. Last year the land tax went dramatically based on what we consider is a flawed valuation. We objected to the valuation but that landed on deaf ears. It seems the state government is so broke it is resorting to trying to get blood out of a stone.
There must be a lot of other people in a similar position. We can't afford to keep the Tuross holiday house until we can retire. As we want to move out of the city when we retire we have to sell now and buy another house later, this will mean we have to pay stamp duty and this of course is a win/win for the state government. You can't win!
Editor: Thankyou for your insightful contribution - there may be many in Tuross in your same predicament. Thanks for sharing.
